High School Student to Registered Nurse

Knowing the basics of an associate degree in Nursing is one of the easiest ways to become a Registered Nurse, but this might not be an option for high school graduates.

If you are a high school student interested in pursuing a career in nursing, there are a few steps you can take to get started.

First, focus on your academic studies. Ensure you take courses in biology, chemistry, and math, as well as English and other core subjects. These courses will help prepare you for the rigorous science and math coursework you will encounter in nursing school.

After high school, you must attend a nursing program approved by your state’s nursing board. These programs typically last two to four years and include coursework in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and other nursing-specific subjects.

Additionally, you will complete clinical rotations where you will work with seasoned nurses and gain practical experience with patient care.

Once you have completed your nursing program, you must pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a Licensed Registered Nurse. This exam tests your knowledge and competency in nursing and is necessary for licensure in all states.

Finally, consider pursuing advanced education and certifications in nursing. That can open up more career opportunities and help you specialize in a particular area of nursing, such as pediatrics, oncology, or critical care.

With hard work and dedication, you can achieve your goal of becoming a nurse and positively impacting your patients’ lives.
